Middlebury College officials told students, faculty and staff on Tuesday that there's been a second death on campus this semester.

Police are investigating the

Middlebury College says there's no reason to believe there's a threat to the campus community. Officials believe the student died overnight outside of a campus building Monday, according to a statement from the school.

from college leaders says the student was 19-year-old Ivan Valerio from Kissimmee, Florida.

"Ivan was a dual citizen of the Philippines and the United States, and his Filipino identity was very important to him, according to members of our Student Life team who knew him," the statement says. "A graduate of NeoCity Academy in Kissimmee, he arrived at Middlebury in fall 2022 and embraced campus life. He served as an Orientation leader this year and expressed his desire to help new students make a positive transition to Middlebury. Although Ivan had not yet declared a major, he was interested in Japanese and computer science."

This is the second student death this fall at Middlebury College. Another student died in a dorm on campus in September.
