Toby Talbot

The annual blood drive in Rutland will aim to beat a national record on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Just what exactly is all that blood used for, and where does it go?

We’ll find out all about blood and blood drives with Mary Brant of the and Dr. Mark Fung, director of the Blood Bank at and an Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Vermont.

Have you ever donated blood? Have you ever benefited from donated blood, plasma, or platelets? Send your comments or questions to [email protected]

Also today, we begin our special feature, “Vermonters Without Borders.â€  This series will focus on local folks who have served abroad in a number of ways. Today we'll hear from Dr. John Lawrence, a Burlington surgeon who worked in Syria this fall.

Broadcast on Monday, Dec. 16 at noon and 7 p.m.

One in five Vermonters is considered elderly. But what does being elderly even mean and what do Vermonters need to know as they age? I’m looking into how aging in Vermont impacts living essentials such as jobs, health care and housing. And also how aging impacts the stuff of life: marriage, loss, dating and sex.
