Roughly 20% of the courses taught at St. Mike's are taught by adjuncts. At Champlain college, adjuncts teach about half the classes.

Last month adjunct faculty at Burlington College, Champlain College, and St. Michael's College all voted separately to join the . The faculty say they are looking for stability, benefits, and increased compensation.

We learn more about who teaches in adjunct or lecturer positions, what their , and why some of them are interested in unionizing. We talk to Sean Witters, a lecturer in the English Department at the University of Vermont and a member of , and Genevieve Jacobs, an adjunct at Champlain College and Community College of Vermont.

Also on the show, in November of this year seven people died from heroin overdoses in the upper valley. It turns out all of them had used heroin laced with a drug called Fentanyl. We learn more about what Fentanyl is and why it's killing people in Vermont with Dr. Ben Nordstrom, the Director of Addiction services at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
