Not Your Old School Manufacturing

Vermont Historical Society
Traditional manufacturing that thrived in places like Springfield, Vermont, is being replaced by "advanced manufacturing."

Traditionally, when we think of manufacturing, images of the dirt and danger of heavy industry are conjured. It's also thought of as a declining industry.

But in the 21st century, Advanced Manufacturing appears to be the way forward. This is the area of manufacturing that uses automation, software or cutting-edge technology.

We discuss on the advanced manufacturing challenges and opportunities that face New England and Vermont with Deloitte Consulting Senior Manager Alison Lands and Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development Patricia Moulton.

Also on the program, on Saturday, June 6, the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive in Winooski, with the flyers advertising it as an "ethnic diversity blood drive." We speak with Doctor Jorge Rios, the Medical Director of the American Red Cross Blood Services for most of New England for an explanation of the drive.

Broadcast live on Mon., June 1, 2015 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
