Howard Weiss-Tisman

More than 150 people attended a meeting last week to learn more about the potential extent of the contamination of wells in North Bennington.

Vermont officials have been testing over a hundred wells in North Bennington and Bennington for the potentially hazardous chemical PFOA - after the substance was found in private wells near a former factory that used the chemical. We're looking at the latest on the contamination, the state's response, and the plan going forward.

We're joined by VPR reporter for the latest from Governor Shumlin's visit to North Bennington today. Also with us are Chuck Schwer, director of the Vermont DEC’s waste management and prevention division, and Sarah Vose, state toxicologist at the Vermont Department of Health. We'll also hear from Bennington town manager , and we'll be joined by environmental advocate .

The state's information hotline for the water contamination situation is (802)-828-1038.

Broadcast live on Tues., March 8, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
