Drawing Inspiration: 'Vermont Edition' Gets Graphic With Cartoonists

"Vermont Edition" collects interviews from four graphic novelists, featuring work from (clockwise from top left) Jason Lutes, Alison Bechdel, Rachel Lindsay, and James Sturm.

A special Vermont Edition collects interviews with cartoonists and graphic novel creators, showcasing local work in the unique art form that presents novel-length stories in a comic strip format. It's a combination of words and images that doesn't shy away from difficult subjects: these Vermont cartoonists tackle mental health, crumbling marriages, world wars and the current political climate.

Included in the show are:

  • Vermont cartoonist shares her story of living with bipolar disorder in the graphic novel .
  • Professor and cartoonist  discusses the 22-year, 500-page historical fiction project .
  • Cartoonist Alison Bechdel walks Jane Lindholm through an at UVM's Fleming Museum.
  • co-founder  talks about his graphic novel , about an unraveling marriage set against the politics of the 2016 presidential election.

Broadcast on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.

Jane Lindholm is the host, executive producer and creator of But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids. In addition to her work on our international kids show, she produces special projects for ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý. Until March 2021, she was host and editor of the award-winning ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý program Vermont Edition.
Mary Williams Engisch is a local host on All Things Considered.
