The bears are back in town. They've been spotted lumbering around Vermont cities, college campuses and in suburban and rural backyards. Whenever bears start becoming a bit emboldened and getting close to humans, it's important to be reminded of why we're seeing this activity and how we should react.
Forrest Hammond, a wildlife biologist and black bear project leader for the , joined Vermont Edition to provide insight on these topics.
Hammond discussed the rise in bear sightings in Vermont, what to do if you encounter one in the wild and gave some advice on how to prevent bears from getting into your garbage and returning to your yard.
