It has taken a while for Vermont wines to get noticed, and the crawl for the state's winemakers has been slow and steady. However, even sub-genres are now being recognized; in particular, natural wine.
Natural wine? Isn't all wine natural? Or is only organic wine natural? Wait, then what's traditional wine? Slow down and smell the grapes, my friend. All those questions are answered by Seven Days food writer, , in this episode of The VPR Cafe. But, simply stated, natural wine focuses more on the fruit rather than the production.
Some succesful vintners in the the natural wine arena, so far, include - a new series launched by winegrower, Ethan Joseph. Another player is Deirdra Heekin at in Barnard. Heekin has garnered national attention in The New York Times and Wine Spectator, and nominated for a James Beard Award.
