Brattleboro activist Isaac Evans-Frantz has joined the race for U.S. Senate as a Democrat, one of several candidates vying to fill the seat that will be vacated by Sen. Patrick Leahy, who he would not seek re-election.
Evans-Frantz will face current U.S. House Rep. Peter Welch, and Warren physician Niki Thran, in the state's August Democratic primary. The general election will be held in November.
Evans-Frantz told Vermont Edition that his top priorities as senator would be creating a universal public healthcare system and addressing the climate crisis.
"I want to be Vermont's next senator because we are living through a time of intense crisis, mass extinction, foreign wars, and here in this state, a housing and healthcare crisis," he told host Connor Cyrus.
"And I'm not seeing our leaders adequately addressing these issues."
