It's official: The greatest Alpine skier in the history of the sport is Burke Mountain Academy alum Mikaela Shiffrin.Shiffrin set the World Cup record for career victories by winning a slalom race Saturday in Sweden, her 87th World cup win, and one that broke a tie with Ingemar Stenmark on the all-time list for first place finishes for men or women.

When Mount Ascutney ski resort went bankrupt over a decade ago, it threw nearby West Windsor into turmoil. So the town took a risk and bought the ski area in 2015. Residents formed a non-profit called Ascutney Outdoors to run it, and the move paid off.

Ryan Cochran-Siegle won the silver medal in the men's super-G at the Beijing winter games this month. It was almost 50 years, to the day, that his mom, Barbara Ann, won a gold medal in the women's slalom at the games in Japan. Cochran-Siegle is now back in Vermont, where his accomplishment is being properly celebrated by friends, family and even people he's never met.
