A superior court judge this month threw out a case seeking to bar residents of Burlington who are not U.S. citizens, but who are in compliance with federal immigration laws, from voting in local school district elections. It's the latest in a series of losses for Republican groups aiming to curtail noncitizen voting.

Vermonters showed up to polling places on Tuesday to cast their ballots in national and statewide races. Here are some scenes from Election Day and the night that followed as results rolled in.

The Associated Press has not officially called the race, but with all towns reporting, Rodgers holds a 6,000 vote lead over incumbent David Zuckerman, a Progressive/Democrat.

Gov. Phil Scott鈥檚 reelection coincided with strong returns for Republicans in the Legislature and in the highly competitive lieutenant governor race.

The Associated Press called Vermont a Harris win immediately after polls closed.

Voting is a deeply personal act. And not voting can be, too. Across the country, some voters continue to express dissatisfaction with Vice President Kamala Harris, saying she hasn鈥檛 separated herself from President Joe Biden on Gaza. 开云体育 talked to a few voters who shared similar views.

Election Day is here. Polls in Vermont open at various times and will remain open until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

While some states have enacted more restrictive voting policies, Vermont has made itself a leader in access to the polls. But that doesn鈥檛 mean it鈥檚 perfect: Some Vermonters are confused by the changing rules, and some marginalized communities face extra barriers that haven鈥檛 fully been resolved.

Vermont advocates also hoped to encourage people to participate in the upcoming general election.
