Student Composer Showcase: Colin Desch

Jeb Wallace-Brodeur/Times-Argus
Colin Desch at the Farmer's Night Concert in Montpelier. Colin's piece 'Tempesta' was premiered by the VSO, and we'll hear it as part of this month's Student Composer Showcase.

March's is Colin Desch. The Montpelier High School ninth grader already has a recent premiere under his belt.

Colin's love of music is encouraged by his family, to the point where his father's annual Christmas request is a new piece, composed and performed by Colin and his sister. "Music is a thing that comes from inspiration, and there’s nothing you can just pull straight out of your head," says Colin. "You have to think about it a lot to find something that comes close to being purely creative."

The Student Composer Showcase is produced in collaboration with Music-COMP's online composition mentoring program. Find out more at .

Colin wrote Tempesta for the Farmers' Night David M. Wilson Memorial Concert presented on Jan. 27, 2016 with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Jaime Laredo directed an ensemble of VSO musicians.
