Anti-Narcotics Bill To Clear Vt. Senate

The Vermont Senate is set to give final approval on Friday to a bill that's intended to bolster Vermont’s response to prescription drug addiction by providing wider access to the state’s drug monitoring system.

On Thursday, the House a bill that would allow workers to unionize who provide personal care to disabled Vermonters in their homes. The vote was 95-41. The measure mirrors a separate bill that would allow child care workers to unionize and would permit home care workers to negotiate with the state for better pay and benefits.

The debate in the Legislature is expected to heat up again next week as lawmakers turn to other signature bills of the session: one that would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana and another that would allow people in this country illegally, including migrant farm workers, to obtain drivers� authorization cards.
