The Addison County Regional Planning Commission has voted to reaffirm its support of the Vermont Gas Systems pipeline being built into the county.
The 23 to nine vote shows a majority of commissioners are not concerned enough with last year’s cost increases to petition the ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Service Board to reopen regulatory proceedings.
Cost estimates for the project went from $86.6 million (when the board approved the project) to $154 million in the second half of 2014. in light of those estimates, and is expected to make a decision later this summer.
An earlier version of the planning commission’s Wednesday item would have explicitly opposed any new regulatory proceedings, but the commissioners changed the wording to “state it in a positive sentence before voting to approve the resolution.
Construction on the pipeline is despite the risk that the Public Service Board could revoke its approval of the project.
