Summer School: How To Tune A Piano

Tom McNeil tunes the piano for a performance at the Adamant Music School.

Many people inherit an old piano that ends up gathering dust in the corner of the living room. It's the job of a piano tuner to get under the lid to take care of such a complex and sensitive instrument.

On this week's Summer School, we learn how to tune a piano. Tom McNeil has been tuning and maintaining pianos for nearly half a century, and has more than 20 years of experience caring for pianos at the . Although he can tune by ear, he describes the tuning process for pianists of all skill levels.
