College Of St. Joseph Promotes Its Diversity

The College of St. Joseph in Rutland has an undergraduate population of just 250 students, but it bills itself as the most diverse college in the state. Nearly 40 percent of the student body is non-white.

St. Joe's also prides itself on the STEPS program, a full-time residential program for Vermont youth transitioning out of foster care. There are currently 10 students at the college who are in that program.

Paula McGhee is the school's Director of Diversity and Inclusion and the Director of the STEPS Program. She spoke with Vermont Edition about how the school thinks about culture, cohesion, and diversity.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
Jane Lindholm is the host, executive producer and creator of But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids. In addition to her work on our international kids show, she produces special projects for ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý. Until March 2021, she was host and editor of the award-winning ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý program Vermont Edition.
