A high-ranking official at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is resigning as the hospital deals with budget challenges.
Dr. John D. Birkmeyer is the executive vice president for Integrated Delivery Systems and chief academic officer at the Lebanon-based hospital.
He says he will leave his post at the end of next week.
In an email, Dr. James Weinstein, the CEO and president of Dartmouth-Hitchcock, thanked Birkmeyer for his two-year tenure.
Birkmeyer's resignation comes as Dartmouth-Hitchcock tries to address a budget deficit that may result in staff lay-offs.
