A new report gives details on the economic, social and land use lessons learned from the shutdown of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant in Vernon.
Economic development officials in the three states near the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant have learned a lot about what happens when a plant closes.
On Friday, they released , which they say could be a roadmap for other regions around the country that face a similar shutdown.
More than 600 people worked at VY when it closed, and they lived in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Chris Campany, director of the Windham Regional Commission, says the decision to plan for the closing well ahead of the shut down helped soften the blow across the region.
"That decision enabled the WRC to provide foundational information for post-VY closure analysis," Campany said. "It enabled us to provide detailed information about what communities would be most affected to our own towns, to our counter parts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire."
Campany spoke a press conference in Brattleboro, Friday.
He said the documents the lessons learned since VY closed at the end of 2014.
