Where will you be on April 8?

Whether you already call Vermont home or you’re planning a visit to experience the total solar eclipse (if you were able to snag a vacation rental or hotel room, that is), there are plenty of ways to watch and celebrate.

Communities and businesses across northern Vermont are planning events to bring together residents and eclipse-searchers alike for the great spectacle in the sky.

Local businesses, museums and even the airport are opening their doors to sky watchers. There are also a host of different types of pre- and post-eclipse activities that you don’t need special glasses to enjoy.

Here’s a list of eclipse events taking place across northern Vermont:

Alburgh

Alburgh Totality Festival

Alburgh’s three-day community eclipse festival will include live music and a parade leading up the eclipse.

Barre

Barre’s Solar Eclipse Block Party
Merchant’s Row
April 8, 1-5 p.m.
Head to Merchant’s Row in downtown Barre to browse vendors, enjoy music and, of course, watch the eclipse.

Brandon

Eclipse viewing and weekend events
April 5-8
The town of Brandon, while not in the path of complete totality, will experience 99.4% coverage of the moon over the sun. Businesses in the town are hosting a number of events leading up to the eclipse, including art shows, musical performances and a “zombie walk� down Park Street. The town invites people to “ring in the eclipse� at local churches or watch from local parks and recreation areas � just don’t forget the eclipse viewing glasses!

Brattleboro

Solar Eclipse Celebration with Thistle
Epsilon Spires
April 8, 2-7 p.m.
Grab some viewing glasses and watch a partial eclipse outside Epsilon Spires, then head inside at 5:30 p.m. for a performance by the chamber folk duo Thistle. Tickets are $15.

Brighton

Island Pond Great American Eclipse 2024 Weekend
April 6-8
Island Pond will have a number of eclipse-related events, as well as a viewing party at Lakeside Park. Some of the activities leading up to the eclipse include an adult cookie decorating party, live music and breakfasts at the Brighton American Legion on Sunday morning and Hobo’s Cafe on Monday.

Burlington

Spirit of Ethan Allen Eclipse Cruise
Departs from Burlington Waterfront
April 8, 1-5 p.m.
View the eclipse from the middle of Lake Champlain. The scenic cruise will depart the Burlington Waterfront and head toward Grand Isle until it reaches the center of the path of totality. Spots can be reserved for $149.99. Booking ahead of time is recommended.

For the price of a ticket ($100 for adults � kids are free) you can watch the eclipse from the airfield at BTV and enjoy live music, food, drinks and more.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

April 8, 4-7 p.m.
This ticketed ($55) '80s-themed event begins right after the eclipse. Enjoy cocktails, eat hors d'oeuvres, and dance to music from the 1980s as an eclipse palate cleanser.

Totality at Hula
Hula Lakeside
April 7 at 3-5 p.m., April 8 at 12-5 p.m.
The Hula campus in Burlington will have former NASA aerospace engineer Jack Bacon for a presentation on the science and process of a solar eclipse on Sunday afternoon. On Monday, there will be food and drinks, music and lakeside eclipse viewing at Hula.

Obscura Burlington
Events from the end of March to April 8
Obscura Burlington comprises a number of events leading up to the eclipse, including “Totality Talks� with University of Vermont professors, live music, comedy shows and other events around the city. Viewing sites around Burlington include Waterfront Park, City Hall Park and more. The ECHO Leahy Center will have a variety of eclipse-related activities throughout the weekend leading up to the day of the eclipse. On April 8, the center will have a variety of safe-viewing methods and hands-on activities, as well as a livestream of the eclipse.

The weekend leading up to the eclipse, head to South Burlington for this indoor/outdoor market, which will include food and drinks, music and a range of artists and other vendors.

Total Eclipse Event at the Sunset Drive-In
Sunset Drive-In
April 8, noon-4:30 p.m.
Hit up the drive-in theatre on eclipse day � but instead of a screen, you’ll be watching the sky. Sunset Drive-In will have eclipse glasses for purchase, and their snackbar, playground and mini putt will all be open. Tickets are $5 per car.

Derby

Eclipse Viewing in the Labyrinth
Lavender Essentials of Vermont
Head to the Lavender Essentials farm in Derby for an all-inclusive eclipse watching package that includes activities like a scavenger hunt on a fairy trail, refreshments and camping at the farm. All-inclusive tickets ($99 for adults) are required ahead of time.

Enosburgh

Solar Eclipse Party and Yoga
Lincoln Park and Bridge of Flowers and Light, Enosburg Falls
April 8, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Join a free yoga session from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Bridge of Flowers and Light, and say “namaste� just in time to watch the sun on its transit to totality. Head to Lincoln Park starting at 2 p.m. for music, food, giveaways and a view of the total solar eclipse. is highly recommended for yoga.

Glover

Bread and Puppet Theater eclipse ritual and exhibit
April 8, 2 p.m.
The Bread and Puppet Theater is putting on a ritual for the solar eclipse. They will lead an exorcism of all evil, as well as a dance and song circle leading up to the moment of totality. (They invite participants to arrive early Monday to learn the songs.) There will also be an art exhibit featuring the work of Peter Schumann. Tickets are available for $10.

Jeffersonville

The Golden Retriever Eclipse Experience
Golden Dog Farm
April 8, 1-5 p.m.
Golden Dog Farm (which has become something of a ), is holding an eclipse-watching event featuring food and refreshments, a playdate with the pups, live music and more. Tickets are $249.

Jericho

Solar Eclipse at Deborah Rawson Memorial Library
April 8, 2-4 p.m.
Watch the eclipse from the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library along with Abbey Heimlich, youth librarian, and Scott Turnbull from the Vermont Astronomical Society.

Lunenburg

Eclipse at the top of the Lunenburg Common
April 8, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Head to the top of the Lunenburg Common for an eclipse celebration with plenty of sugaring season activities. Watch the sun and moon align as you enjoy sugar on snow, sample maple cotton candy and look at displays about Lunenburg’s heritage of maple sugaring.

Marshfield

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

April 8, starting at 2 p.m.
Jaquith Public Library will host an eclipse party with viewing glasses and other viewing devices. They’ll also have activities and models that dive deeper into eclipse science. The library will have an eclipse-themed activity and information session, along with an opportunity to make eclipse viewing devices, on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Middlebury

The Totally Amazing Eclipse Party in Middlebury
Middlebury Recreation Park
April 8, 12-4 p.m.
This family-oriented event will have local food and music as the moon eclipses the sun.

Montpelier

Montpelier Alive Eclipse Weekend
April 5-8
Montpelier is celebrating the eclipse all weekend with activities and events including an art walk on Friday, a free eclipse lecture at the library on Saturday, and eclipse-watching opportunities at an array of parties and public viewing areas on Monday.

Solar Eclipse Party at Barr Hill
April 8, noon-4 p.m.
Head to Caledonia Spirits� Barr Hill distillery for a free eclipse-watching event with live music, cocktails, food and more.

Newport

2024 Total Eclipse Event
Gardner Park
April 8, 2-4:45 p.m.
Clouds or sunshine, the city of Newport is inviting those watching and celebrating the eclipse to gather at Gardner Park. There will be live music, a guest speaker from the Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Foundation and free eclipse glasses for the first 500 guests.

Norwich

Solar Eclipse Activity Days at the Montshire Museum of Science
April 7, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. and April 8, 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The Montshire Museum will have activities on Sunday and Monday leading up to the eclipse, including opportunities to make a pinhole eclipse viewer. They will also be offering sessions in their StarLab portable planetarium. Visitors can watch the eclipse from the museum grounds. Parking and museum admission will be first come, first served.

Plattsburgh, New York

Head to the other side of Lake Champlain for a free eclipse-watching event featuring live music, food trucks and more.

Peacham

Solar Eclipse Watch at Northern Skies Observatory
April 8, 2-5 p.m.
The Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Foundation is inviting eclipse watchers to the Northern Skies Observatory, where there will be one minute of totality. For a small donation, they’ll provide viewing through telescopes and solar eclipse glasses.

Quechee

Solar Eclipse 2024 at The Vermont Institute of Natural Science
April 8, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The museum will have live music and a program focusing on animals and the eclipse.

Richford

Total Solar Eclipse Weekend
April 7 and 8
The town of Richford is going all out for the eclipse. Grab a free pair of viewing glasses at town hall, then head to official viewing areas: Richford Elementary School, The Richford Country Club or Davis Park.

Shelburne

Shelburne’s All-Town Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Party
Shelburne Field House
April 8, 2-5 p.m.
Gather at the Shelburne Field House to watch the eclipse and browse vendors from Shelburne Farmers Market. They’ll also have the entire Pink Floyd album “Dark Side of the Moon� playing to set the mood.

“You Are My Sunshine� Eclipse Event

April 8, 1-5 p.m.
Bread & Butter Farm is opening up its space for eclipse-watching. They’ll have live music, farm-fresh food for sale and opportunities to explore the farm. This event is ticketed, with varying prices based on your mode of transportation ($10 if you arrive via bike, $25 for motorcycles, $60 for cars and $99 for passenger vans).

The Great Eclipse Sacred Sound Sanctuary Retreat
All Souls Interfaith Gathering
April 8, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
This day-long retreat is meant to nourish your body and your mind in a peaceful environment. There will be a talk about astrology and the energies associated with the eclipse. There will also be an anointing ritual and sound journey ahead of the eclipse reaching totality. Tickets for the retreat are $222.

Moonshadow: An Eclipse Viewing Experience

At this ticketed event, hear an improvised musical score during the eclipse and enjoy food and beverages.

April 6-7, tours start at 1 and 2 p.m.
Get ready for the eclipse with a bit of brandy and pommeau at Shelburne Orchards. You’ll tour the barrelhouse and learn about the process of making the spirits. Then, you’ll get to try them. Tickets are $10.

South Hero

Solar Eclipse Gathering
Camp Hochelaga
April 8, 1-5 p.m.
Head to Camp Hochelaga to view the eclipse, hear local musicians and browse local artists and vendors. This event is not ticketed, but organizers are suggesting a $5 donation.

Great Northern American Eclipse

April 7-8
Blue Paddle Bistro is putting on several special events for the eclipse. Join an eclipse-themed trivia brunch on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the day of the eclipse, enjoy cocktails and appetizers from 2-4 p.m., as the sun reaches totality. Then, wind down after the eclipse with a “Moonlight Delight Dinner.� Call Blue Paddle Bistro to make reservations.

Though eclipse day falls in the off-season and facilities will be closed, some state parks will make prime viewing locations for the eclipse. According to Vermont State Parks, they include Boulder Beach, Branbury, Crystal Lake, DAR, Elmore, Emerald Lake, Mt. Philo, Grand Isle, Knight Point, Lake Shaftsbury, Lake St. Catherine, Little River, Niquette Bay, Silver Lake and Waterbury Center.
